Urgent versus important
Separating what demands attention now from what matters most, on the observation that urgency systematically crowds out importance unless it is deliberately resisted.
Evidence grade: practice A widely adopted practitioner model with clear provenance.
Use it when
Triaging demand on a team; diagnosing a calendar or a roadmap that is all reaction.
Where it stops working
It is a lens and cannot schedule anything. Much real work is both urgent and important, and the discipline lies in funding the important but quiet work, which labelling quadrants does not do.
Where the standard uses it
- DE-1Prioritisation under constraintSequencing, trade-offs, saying no.
