Radical candour
Two axes, caring personally and challenging directly, and the failures that follow when one is missing. Challenge without care reads as aggression. Care without challenge produces ruinous empathy, in which a well-liked manager's people never learn where they stand.
Evidence grade: practice A widely adopted practitioner model with clear provenance.
