Hiring as a system
At organisational scale, hiring has a throughput and a quality. It covers sourcing, a bar that survives growth, calibration across many interviewers, and the choice between internal and external candidates treated as a portfolio decision.
Evidence grade: practice A widely adopted practitioner model with clear provenance.
Use it when
Whenever more than a few people are hiring against the same bar, and whenever the organisation is growing fast.
Where it stops working
A bar that drifts one interviewer at a time cannot be seen in any single hire and is obvious over a year. Taking the systems view helps only if someone looks at the year.
Where the standard uses it
- PL-3Hiring and onboardingStructured evaluation, calibrated standards, assessing capability rather than tool access.
